Events, News and Reviews

  • MUFFINS AND MYSTERIES at Marie Callendar's on May 4th was great fun. See Marie's page.

  • A REVIEW OF TROJAN HORSE as well as A ONE-EIGHTH PAGE AD is in the Spring/Summer 2000 edition of THE BOOK READER MAGAZINE, a free reading guide to be found in most California bookstores. Reprint is on Book Reader page.

  • SOME DAYS ARE LIKE THAT --
THE MARCH 21ST READING AND SIGNING
at Barnes & Noble in Almaden Plaza wasn't as well attended as I'd hoped, but not because the B&N contact, Mike Koller, (not to be confused with the folks in charge of their website) didn't do his best. Lots of nice flyers and great in-store signs weeks in advance. Mike did say that TROJAN HORSE sold well prior to the event, and he gave me one of the big signs, which I had framed and is now hanging on my wall. It looks great!

  • THE SANTA CLARA WOMEN'S CLUB served a tasty homemade luncheon on February 4th when Cara Black and I visited for the Sisters in Crime Speakers Bureau. We were graciously received by an enthusiastic audience who had lots of questions for both of us after our readings. The Club contact, Char Blake, reported that "there was nothing but great feedback from everyone," and Cara and I each sold several books after the event. Very enjoyable, not to mention profitable.

  • A PRE-CHRISTMAS READING AND SIGNING at Borders Books in Los Gatos was a lot of fun. I didn't know I was doing a reading until five minutes before the scheduled event when they announced it on their in-store loudspeaker. Had to borrow one of their (for sale) copies and quickly look up something to read for the folks gathered in the cafe. Managed to fill up most of my allotted hour and the audience seemed satisfied; sold all but a couple of copies they had in stock and was able to furnish them a few more for their holiday display. Good practice, that. In this business you have to be ready for anything. There are some photos of this august event on my Borders page.

  • LOS GATOS WEEKLY TIMES had a nice article about TROJAN HORSE and yours truly in Mary Ann Cook's Main Street column in December. The article is on my LG Weekly Times page.

  • NOVEMBER SIGNINGS of TROJAN HORSE at the Los Gatos Crown Book Store on Nov 19th, and the Sunnyvale Crown Book Store on Nov 21st, were well attended and sold quite a few books. It was especially interesting to talk with Los Gatos locals about "the old days," though one visitor actually threatened to look up highschool yearbooks! As of the holidays, Crown still has books available (at their discounted price).

  • OCTOBER SIGNINGS -- I enjoyed signing copies of TROJAN HORSE at the Sisters in Crime booth at the San Francisco Book Festival on the 17th of October. Click here for a few pictures of that event.

  • PUBLISHERS WEEKLY , October 25, 1999 Mystery Issue features a 2-page Sisters in Crime Ad which includes TROJAN HORSE and a link to this website

  • A RIDE ON THE TROJAN HORSE went to Albuquerque -- See Mary Sarber's review for Left Coast Crime 9 . . . .

  • 1ST BOOKS LIBRARY crests the wave of the future as the biggest virtual bookseller in the nation. Read the San Francisco Chronicle's take on Virtual Books . . . .
